The objective
was to stimulate interest in an incentive
program established to increase sales of
slow moving products. The advertiser, a
supplier of cement products, adopted the
theme "Tournament of Champions" for their
sales incentive program. Three custom
mailers were sent to 250 distributor/dealers
and salespersons reminding them that prizes
could be earned by increasing their sales of
the promoted products. Each mailer carried a
specific message and contained a coordinated
specialty item. For example: "We won't tell
you winning prizes selling Sternson products
is no sweat . . . " was printed on the
mailer cover and inside the message read
"But we will help keep it out of your eyes."
The specialty enclosed was a sweatband
imprinted with the program logo and the
message, "No Sweat Band," Other mailings
contained a wrench-shaped pen (copy: I'm
nuts about Sternson products) and a
plantender (copy: I dig Sternson products).
Dealer personnel selling the designated
products were given the opportunity to
select items from the prize catalog.
Recipients were said to have been
enthusiastic about the program and many
called to congratulate Sternson management
on the creativity of the mailings. The
product mix was said to have been improved,
and the client decided to continue with a
similar program the following year. |
